Basic facts you should know about ISO/TS 16949
  1. Title of the Standard: Quality Management Systems-Particular requirements for the application of IOSO 9001:2000 for automotive production and relevant service part organizations. Current edition: ISO/TS 16949-2002/corrected version 2003.
  2. ISO/TS 16949:2002/ corrected version 2003 were prepared by the International Automotive Taskforce (IATF) and Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc. (JAMA). It is reviewed after three years at which date it may be reaffirmed, revised or cancelled.
  3. It replaced the ISO/TS 16949:1999 version based on ISO 9001:1994, and is an alternative to QS 9000.
  4. This Technical Specification (ISO/TS 16949) provides a common approach to a quality management system, for automotive production, and related service part organizations.
  5. The boxed text in the standard is the original ISO 9001 text; the sector specific supplemental requirements are stated outside of the box.
  6. In this technical specification the word “shall” indicates a mandatory requirement (Note: as in all ISO 9001 and AS 9100 standards), the word “should” indicates a recommendation, “Notes” are for guidance only.
  7. Concept and numerical lay out is exactly tailored after the ISO 9001 standard and it is a process driven concept. Since the ISO 9001 requirements are fully integrated in this ISO/TS 16949 standard you are meeting both standard requirements.
